Photo 24 Oct 1 note Working on a double-page spread about Biomimicry for this commission in Colors Magazine on real-world superheroes.  Mother nature gives birth to a new way of creating technology.  Here is the lineart so far and the colors will be added digitally.  Used Charles Vess as a reference for creating areas of ‘quiet space’.

Photo 29 Sep 13 notes Movie poster for the sci-fi horror: Event Horizon (1997).  Juxtaposed theme of vision/hallucination with the eye-shaped corridors in the movie.  Indicated space through zero-gravity blood droplets.  Textures achieved through traditional media (ink, graphite, acrylic spatters) mixed with digital media (digital collage techniques).  Established the image’s value first and then applied color.  Final print size 20”x30”

Photo 5 Jun Final project for Life Drawing 2 was to do a portrait of someone using multiple pieces of paper.  I decided to include 2 angles of each action somehow combined on each piece, then collaged them together.  Used oil and chalk pastel on toned paper, focusing on likeness, expressive mark making, optical blending and atmospheric color.

Photo 5 Jun Getting back to some actual life drawing.  Got to do a costumed person for a change, and of course he was a pirate.  Chalk and oil pastel on toned paper.

A promotional poster for Savannah’s wildlife preserve: Oatland Island.  They supplied the design on the top and I tried to make my design feel like a part of the same image.  Overlayed in Photoshop a black and white pen&ink/inkwash drawing on top of a color pastel underdrawing, then fudged around a little more in Photoshop to clean it up.

Photo 1 Jun Used Photoshop to design a stylized portrait of Randy “Macho Man” Savage, focusing on composition, texture, and recognizability.  Real happy with how this turned out, trying to emulate and work with the style in my Nordic creation myth below.

Following a Flapjack-inspired character riding animals to 5 unusual travel destinations around the world.  This digital painting was made to wrap around a paint can and I had fun doing the whole thing.
